We are currently seeking a passionate Director of Coaching Junior Domestic Program to help shape the next generation of players and coaches within our club.
Position Overview
- Position Title: Director of Coaching – Junior Domestic Programs
- Reports To: Club President / Vice President
- Engagement: Contractor (ABN required)
- Time Commitment: Approx. 10 hours per week (during the season), plus planning and school holiday commitments as required.
The Director of Coaching (DOC) will provide strategic and practical leadership across Greenhills’ Junior Domestic Program. This role focuses on supporting and developing junior coaches, enhancing player development pathways, and ensuring a consistent, high quality training environment aligned with Basketball Victoria standards and the club’s values.
Key Responsibilities
Coach Development and Support
- Recruit, support, and mentor all junior domestic coaches.
- Deliver coach inductions, outlining club values, expectations, and available tools.
- Provide regular support through training session observations, game-day feedback, and one-on-one coaching reviews.
- Plan and deliver internal coach education sessions, including workshops and clinics.
- Support coaches to obtain or maintain Basketball Victoria Community Coach Accreditation.
Player Development
- Oversee the implementation of consistent and progressive skill development programs.
- Promote age-appropriate training aligned with long-term athlete development principles.
- Support pathways for players seeking further development (e.g. representative basketball).
- Lead the planning and delivery of basketball camps during school holidays.
Program Coordination
- Assist with team formation processes, including trials and grading.
- Collaborate with Age Group Coordinators and Team Managers to ensure aligned coaching strategies.
- Provide guidance on effective session planning, drill design, and training structure.
- Develop and maintain a library of coaching and training resources.
Leadership, Culture & Communication
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful club environment for all participants.
- Be a visible and approachable leader on training nights and game days.
- Represent Greenhills at coaching forums, association meetings, and Basketball Victoria events.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the club committee on coaching activities and progress.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in junior basketball coaching.
- Minimum Basketball Victoria Club Coach Accreditation.
- Strong understanding of child and athlete development principles.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Ability to mentor and support coaches across a range of experience levels.
- Commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and positive sporting environments for all participants.
Desirable Criteria
- Basketball Victoria Associate Coach Accreditation (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience coordinating or administering community basketball programs.
- Familiarity with DVBA and EDJBA domestic competition structures.
